Not every transport job is a full house move. A sofa from a second-hand shop (Brockenhaus) in Lachen, a wardrobe bought through a classifieds site in Wetzikon, or a newly bought kitchen island that the retailer only delivers as far as their loading ramp: a single piece of furniture does not justify booking a whole moving crew, but somebody still has to carry it, protect it and put it exactly where it belongs.
This is what furniture transport covers, from collecting one item to delivering several pieces between two addresses, for example when furnishing a holiday flat or a second home. Typical jobs include sofas, display cabinets, wardrobes, fridges and washing machines, as well as garden furniture or a single piece of sports equipment that no longer fits in the boot of your own car. How a furniture transport job runs
Before collection, we confirm the size and weight of the piece and check access at both addresses. When a purchase comes through a classifieds platform, we agree the time window directly with the seller, so the handover does not fall through because of a missed slot. On site, we protect the piece with blankets and corner guards and secure it inside the vehicle with tie-down straps. Narrow stairwells call for a stair trolley, and for particularly bulky pieces we check in advance whether partial dismantling is needed, for example a wardrobe with a detachable frame or a cabinet with loose glass panels. At the destination, we carry the piece straight to the spot you want it and reassemble it if needed.
Where single-item transport gets tight
A furniture transport job most often fails not because of weight but because of geometry. A fridge that passed easily through a wide showroom door does not automatically fit around the bend in the stairwell of an older building. Before collection we check the critical measurements, door width, the angle of the stairwell and ceiling height at the turn. Where the staircase is too narrow, a hoist lift over a balcony or window is often the only option, and we plan for that in advance rather than arriving at a dead end.
A second issue is weight on awkward access routes. Moving a fridge or a large cabinet across an unpaved garden path or down a steep cellar staircase calls for different technique than carrying on the level, such as using slide boards or a second person at the bottom of the stairs. We check this in advance too, from photos or during a short site visit.
Choosing the right vehicle
Not every transport needs the same vehicle. A single chair or a small side table fits in an estate car, while a wardrobe or kitchen island needs a van with a loading ramp. For bulky but light items such as a wardrobe, the interior height of the vehicle matters most, while for heavy items such as a full bookcase or a safe, the permitted payload is what counts. We choose the vehicle to match the piece, not the other way round, so nothing has to be improvised at the destination.
If an old piece of furniture is being replaced by a new delivery, we can also take the old one away, either to pass on to a second-hand shop or for proper disposal. That can be combined directly with delivery of the new piece, instead of needing two separate appointments.
